5th January 2011.

Here I am! In NYC. Got here at half 10 and now I'm all settled into my room.

Never have I been so excited in my life! It's such an amazing city- everything I've ever dreamed of, my eyes watered as we touched down, as this is honestly one of the most exciting times in my life. Just looked out of the hotel window to see yellow cabs chasing down the streets, bursting with life, under the tall towering buildings. Just my dream. As for now, we are about to head out and explore this big city.

...............................................

First things first, we went to Macdonalds for lunch! Brilliant. First place we head for food- at least they post all of the calories on the boards here. We got a yellow cabs straight away; I felt so sex and the city. And we made our way to some of the big hits- Bloomingdales, Saks, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters... I made sure I purchased the new Limited edition Chanel Nailvarnish in Saks; Black Pearl. We stayed out in NY all evening, had dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant called 'Mimis', there were fairylights, breadbaskets and live music- was perfect. We also decided to make the most of our time here and headed out in the evening- went to the comic strip and saw so many hilarious comediens; defintely worth being over tired for; loved getting to experience a bit of the New York night life.

I love NYC at night, the whole city is just alive; the toweing buildings amaze me, you're just one anonymous person. Feels like you can be who ever you want to be; I know one day I will end up here.

Of corse, as much as I am enjoying the experience of this City, I am also making sure I keep my eyes open for new ideas from the US market for our work, I've already seen so much amazing forms of promotion, huge billboards, creative VM and the customer service is a whole new experience. Tommorrow we're heading to FIT, central Park and guess what? More SHOPPING. I could get used to this.

I simply love New York, please don't make me go home.

3rd January 2011.

In just 2 days I will be touching down in NYC, the Big Apple. I can hardly control the excitement I am feeling. Literally cannot believe that I virtually fly tommorrow night.

Super exciting times right now! Today has been rather productive in my preparation for NY- I woke up at a good enough time to hit the shops and make some last minuite purchases and change my cash into dollars.
I managed to get a new pair of military boots, some skinny belts and a new sheer mink shirt with a long back. I also treated myself to some pre-flight pampering with a tasty Chocolate face mask (it smelt so yummy), so now  my skin feels nice and rejuvenated.

However, my suitcase is not packing itsself unfortunately, therefore its time to write my list of all the essential items for my trip.  Then re-write it again. Then attempt packing.

See you in NY!

New York City countdown- 3 days to go!

I am so excited. There are so many things I want to see and do.
I have Frank Sinatra on repeat and my New York City Playlist is definitely getting me in the mood. I know deep down somewhere that I am going to end up in New York, one day.

Never before have I been so excited about visiting a place; looking up to see the buildings towering above me, feeling like an anonymous character amongst the crowds, feeling the electricity and buzz as passers by go on about their everyday lives. It really inspires me.

1st January 2011

I'm just watching Serendipity as I write- it's such a lovely film, all about how fate will lead the way to your destiny. I like that idea. I would love to let fate lead me... I wonder where I would end up. The thing about life is that you never know what is around the corner and I think that now, with this new beginning I have more reason to believe in myself than ever.

I am so excited to think that I will be in NYC in just a few days, walking the same streets as seen in the movies... New York City is a place for spontaneity and i love the idea that anything is possible, it really is the city of dreams.

'Life is not a series of meaningless acts, accidents or coincidences, but rather its a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite sublime plan.'
-Serendipity.

8th January 2011.

Last night we got take out; I had chineese and some of the other girls had the most mammoth Pizza I have EVER seen. It towered high just like the builings of NY!

SoHo today was the BEST, got dropped off at China town and worked our way up. It was very interesting to see how there is such a big issue with designer knock offs in NY; this would be such an interesting thing to explore for a potential article; there is clearly an underground movement selling replicas from Mulberry to Alexander Wang. In such a cosmopolitan city, anyone can get thier designer fix, real or fake.

It was great to see so many of the big designer stores today in SoHo, this has definitely been my favorite place in New York so far.

7th January 2011.

Yesterday was an amazing day and night.. Went to FIT, 5th Avenue, Times Square, Broadway, Ellens Stardust Diner for lunch (was such a funny experience: musical servers/eating burgers and drinking milkshakes/live performers singing to you) and Macys. I'm really loving this experience and feel right at home, a part of this city life. In the evening we headed to a bar with some New Yorkers we met in the day and had  a very funny evening. I have never felt like Carrie Bradshaw so much in my entire life. Getting this chance to experience the real New York was so much fun and definitely an experience I am never ever going to forget. We got the chance to see parts of New York we never thought we would see, such as Harlem and some of the outer parts of the city; this has given me a real taste for what the city has to offer, away from the commerciality.

This morning has been spent in bed, watching Sex & the City on repeat and eating dunkin donuts. Today we're heading to Grand Central Station, Bergdorf Goodman, The Time Warner centre (dali exhibition) and going for a walk around Central Park. With the new snow fall I'm expecting it to be pretty beautiful. Tomorrow it's SoHo time, so excited for this, will be the biggest shopping day.

Before going to New York, I created this blog with some great places to go in SoHo.

Our Trip to The Big Apple.

I've never been so excited to visit a place as I am about New York City. It truely inspires me- the idea of a work driven place, so focused, fast paced and exciting. I simply cannot wait to be there, in such a cosmopoliton place, full of sophistication.

Ever since I was young I've always dreamed of going to NYC- it's been a fantasy of mine. The city that never sleeps. My mother has told me stories for years about the fun she had when she worked on the QE2 and visited NY; she was singing 'New York, New York', kicking her legs up, as the boat sailed by the Statue of liberty. Such a lovely image.

My head has constantly been filled with love stories and tales from the city- from watching episode upon episode of Friends and Sex and The City; the New York skyline is somewhat familar now. Watching every film possible, featuring the city; such as The Devil Wears Prada, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Home Alone, Maid in Manhattan, Serendipity, Coyote Ugly, How to Lose a guy in ten days, Hitch, P.s I love you... The list goes on. It is amazing that now I have the chance to immerse myself into this atmosphere and experience the true senses of New York. Whenever I see a book featuring the big city, I make sure I read it as it is such an aspirational place to me and I cannot get enough of the tales of NY.

The idea of a big romantic city, a place to find love, contrasts greatly to the frightening aspects of New York, making it such a diverse place to be, seeming almost detached from reality to onlookers such as myself. I cannot wait to experience this city for myself and see the sights and fashion of New York. As one of the most stylish cities in the world, I cannot wait to experience the reatailing aspect of NY- the huge department stores such as Macys and Barneys to the array of NY designers, such as Alexander Wang,  Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Zac Posen, and Proenza Shouler.

The visit to the FIT museum will most definitely be a highlight of the Trip, visiting the Japan Fashion Now Exhibition. There is simply so much to see and do in NY, from visits to SoHo and Broadway to walking down 5th Avenue and Central Park, this will most definitely be a trip I will never forget.

Here's to NYC- where dreams are made of.
